The FIA has announced a significant modification to the race strategy for the Monaco Grand Prix in Formula 1. Starting this season, all drivers must make a minimum of two pit stops, both in dry and wet track conditions. This decision comes after several discussions in the Formula 1 Commission, which analyzed alternatives to avoid monotonous races in Monaco, where a single-stop strategy has been the norm for years due to overtaking difficulties.
Recently, the Monaco Grand Prix has been criticized as the lack of action on track led to predictable races where the qualifying from the previous day almost defined the race outcome. To address this situation, with the implementation of this mandatory strategy, pit stops are expected to play a more decisive role, adding uncertainty and overtaking opportunities through strategies.
In addition to this measure, the FIA also reaffirmed its commitment to the evolution of motorsport through its 'Vision 2030' strategy, which aims to promote accessibility, sustainability, and innovation in the sport. These initiatives reflect the organization's effort to adapt Formula 1 to modern times without losing its competitive and spectacular essence. With this new regulation, teams will be required to use at least three different sets of tires during the race.
