Sinner Claims Confident Victory in Monte Carlo

Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner had no trouble adjusting from hard court to clay and defeated French player Ugo Humbert 6-3, 6-0 in just 64 minutes to advance to the second round of the Monte Carlo Masters 1000. The world number two, who will become the top-ranked player if he wins the tournament, extended his winning streak in Masters 1000 tournaments to eighteen. Sinner, who did not play in Monte Carlo last year due to a doping suspension, won the Masters 1000 tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami a few weeks ago, and his performance in the Monaco tournament maintained this high level. The player from San Candido will face the winner of the match between Argentine Francisco Cerúndolo and Czech player Tomáš Macháč in the second round. The Italian, who lost only three games, has won twenty matches in the current season. Sinner crushed his opponent in the first set and was virtually unbeatable in the second, losing only six points to secure his place in the third round of Monte Carlo for the fourth consecutive year. The world number two now has a 36-set winning streak in Masters 1000 tournaments, following his victories in Paris last season and in Indian Wells and Miami last month. Just nine days after becoming the first player to complete the 'Sunshine Double' without dropping a single set, the 24-year-old maintained his momentum on clay with a dominant victory that extends his time in Monte Carlo.
