Third seed Alexander Zverev reached the quarter-finals of the Monte Carlo Masters 1000 by staging a comeback against Chile's Cristian Garín. Zverev defeated his opponent 4-6, 6-4, 7-5. In the first set, the Chilean tennis player did not give the German a chance to break. Garín won 20 out of 22 points on his first serve and capitalized on his first set point in the tenth game. In the second set, Zverev quickly took the lead, breaking in the third game. Garín managed to level the score in the sixth game, taking advantage of his only break opportunity, but immediately lost his serve. The German tennis player held onto that advantage and leveled the match. Everything came down to a tense third set, in which the South American started very strongly, breaking twice in a row to take a 4-0 lead. However, Zverev's push, which won him the fifth, ninth, and eleventh games (the last one to love), prevented Garín from pulling off an upset. The Chilean had chances until the very end, but in the deciding set, there were three break opportunities and three match points. The German tennis player will now face Belgian Zizou Bergs, who defeated Russian Andrey Rublev, the 13th seed, 6-4, 6-1.
